Thoughts and Toxins, the Mental Subluxation

Chiropractors have for years been stating that subluxations have three main root causes. This was stated by DD Palmer originally as thoughts, traumas and toxins. A physical cause, a mental cause, and a chemical cause. These causes are often weighed in favor of the physical trauma being major with mental and chemical being minor. In fact, after listening to a talk from Dr. Patrick Gentempo and Dr. Jay Holder, I believe that the physical ailments in society today tend to be the minor cause of subluxation. Have you ever had a patient that goes through a stressful time in life and tends to be holding their adjustment for a shorter period of time? We have all heard of the saying that people hold their stress in various parts of the body. These thoughts that cause people stress, the emotional aspects of life, can also influence the integrity of the nervous system by causing subluxations.

Subluxations cause interference in the nervous system. When the brain cannot communicate to the body life decreases. Our role as chiropractors is to restore this brain to body connection to allow the innate intelligence of the body to express itself at 100%. The inborn intelligence of the body is what controls everything we are. As we learn more and more about the nervous system and what it controls we learn that chiropractors since DD Palmer, BJ Palmer, and Sid Williams were acknowledging a principle that is completely correct scientifically. One subluxation causes drastic effects to the body and alters every process inside of us. A correction of something so small can have great effects on the overall integrity of the human body and the life we live. Thoughts and toxins alter the brain chemistry and change normal function. When you alter brain chemistry it can lead to some of the things that occur in society that we term mental illness.

Mental illness can be attributed to many aspects of our lives and the only true treatment of mental illness is through counselling to restore the thought process to near perfect. Subluxations can effect the physical chemical nature of the brain that may influence mental illness. No adjustment is a cure for any condition. It simply allows the body to work at its full potential. Subluxations often cause a lack of motion in the spine and research has shown that this motion is vitally important. Movement gives life and a lack of it also takes life away. When your body can move properly it has been shown that mental disturbances such as depression decrease in frequency. The joints of the body provide so much input into the brain that when there is a lack of motion it can severely decrease this input. The emotional center of the brain contains the amygdala, limbic system, hippocampus and many other areas. These have recently been thought to extend to the spinal cord. This importance is so understated in the profession.

Too many chiropractors deal in aches and pains without giving full thought to the nerve system as a whole. When we limit our thinking we limit our influence. The influence on these areas of the brain causes chemical changes that alter mood, change mental status and create wholesale alterations to the body. By correcting subluxations in the spine it can cause the transmission of signals to the brain to regulate and alter the brain chemistry to allow the brain and body to function normally.

It is necessary for chiropractors to recognize the importance of what we do and the impact it can have on our communities. Chiropractic care restores motion and proper nerve flow to the spinal cord which in turn changes brain function. This can be seen from BJ's Clearview Sanitarium all the way to Dr. Jay Holder's work with addiction. When the nerve system is functioning at its highest level the body has no dis-ease because there is pure life expression.

Get checked for subluxations today. We were not meant to have limitations on life. The body was made to heal itself and attain its full potential. Every action you take can be benefited by chiropractic care to express your best.
